When I Forget To Read
When I forget to
read
I also forget to write
The world seems less to me
Than otherwise it might
Pick myself up a book
Let it carry me away
Found in another’s thoughts
Not lost in mine today
Is it duty or our fate
To stretch the boundless mind
In writing we create
Who knows what we may find

Passed Life
The old me
It's not what I want to be
Hard, empty, crusty
Thankfully I've been set free!
~ Geoff Rankin, 2019
Who knew spiders shed their skin?
I think we all don't want to be that person. We want to be
new and improved, better and better day by day, leaving the
old us behind. The old me is a hollow shell of what once
was. The new me is alive, renewed, has moved out and has
moved on! Preferably :)

Flying
Julian
The title for 2017
I guess wasn’t meant to be
But I’m sure we still yet haven’t seen
The best of World Number 3!
~ Geoff Rankin, 2018
Julian Wilson displays the form that
saw him fight for the world championship title right into
the last event, ending the year in third place. Oh so close!
Is 2018 going to be his year? It so definitely could be.

Bubble
Tongue
Of all the
strangish things
A photographer may see
A bubble on the tongue
Of a flying honey bee

Snapper
Sunrise
I watched the sun
hold out its hand
I turned the other way
It said it didn’t understand
I didn’t know what to say
But wave on wave of sheer delight
Washed clear my troubled mind
I turned and said, “Nice to meet you”
And left my fears behind.

Water
Walker
A ghost, she walks on
water
In broadest light of day
A phantom, Huey’s daughter
Is what old legends say
If e’er you’re deemed deserving
As many will attest
You’ll think then of naught but surfing
As one of the obsessed
~ Geoff Rankin, 2017
This is the actual
photo. I’ve not removed the surfboard or any part of the
photo at all. It’s as is. Pretty cool, hey?
She's actually standing on the nose of a longboard which is
hidden by spray, but that's our secret. Shhh!

Dandelion's Mane
I’m a dandelion, hear
me roar
My mane of seeds is set to soar
With one strong blow my seeds will fly
A promise that I'll never die

Poetry In

Stephanie Gilmore
Shows she is still more
Than a pretty face
She's fast & glorious
Six times victorious
And never short of grace!
~ Geoff Rankin, 2017
7 x World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore, is one of the
greatest of all time. She’d only won 6 world championships
when I wrote that little poem in 2017. Maybe it was what
inspired her to win her 7th in 2018 :)

Broken For Us
A
broken figurine of Jesus Christ on a gravestone reminds us
of the historical figure crucified two thousand years ago.
The writers of the New Testament make it clear that...
Jesus died in our place
To pay the price for our sin
Then He rose from the grave
So we can forever live with Him
~ Geoff Rankin, 2017

Fishing
Jabiru
"There's a puddling,
be in it a fish for me.
There's a puddling, be in it a fish for free.
There's a puddling, be in it a fish for tea.
Oh my dearest Joanna, will you now a-puddling be?
Oh my darling...
...Oh, ha ha. I didn't see you there. You gave me a bit of a
fright actually. Almost puddling, you could say. When I'm fishing, I'm singing.
When I'm singing, I'm fishing. That's the way of a
Black-necked Stork. Now, where was I? Fishing.
There's a puddling, be in it a fish for me…”

Supergirl Stephanie
Gilmore Takes Off
Ditch the heels and
pretty frocks
And grab some air at Snapper Rocks
~ Geoff Rankin
(shortest poem contender)
A superhero to many, Steph
Gilmore takes off while practicing her moves at Snapper
Rocks. That's the Gold Coast in the background, and no,
this photo hasn't been Photoshopped. Steph's one of the
world's all-time greatest surfers, and it's amazing to be able
to watch her out in her backyard doing what she does best
with such grace and ease. Snapper Rocks, 2016.
