Owen Wright - Comeback King

With a steely look of determination Australian pro surfer Owen Wright shows he’s overcome a tumultuous year & a half by firing at Snapper Rocks, Mar 2017.

He may have been sidelined through serious injury for a long time, but he shows he’s back and ready to take on the world’s best once again. Have a great year, mate!

And just an update... Owen won the 2017 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast tournament, and as a result was crowned world no.1. Not a bad start to his comeback!

Stephanie Gilmore
Shows she is still more
Than a pretty face

She's fast & glorious
Six times victorious
And never short of grace!

~ Geoff Rankin, 2017

7 x World Champion, Stephanie Gilmore, is one of the greatest of all time.

She’d only won 6 world championships when I wrote that little poem in 2017. Maybe it was what inspired her to win her 7th in 2018 :)

Is That Really A Surfboard?

The real reason why Aussie 3x world champ Mick Fanning flies so fast across the water is due to the fact he doesn’t actually touch it, as can be clearly seen in the above photo. He eliminates all drag by using a hoverboard, not a conventional surfboard. So now you know! It’s also been suggested he surfs so well coz he’s from another planet but that might be stretching things a little:) Snapper Rocks, Feb 2017

Surfing brings so much joy to so many people. It’s been a delight capturing this along with the action shots. In this photo Aussie pro surfer Nikki van Dijk turns to greet a friend as she makes her way into the raging surf at Snapper Rocks, Mar 2017. No matter how much you enjoy something, friends have a way of making it even better.

Golden Mick At The Gold Coast

3x world champ Aussie Mick Fanning rushes to ride another wave during golden hour. Thankfully he didn’t slip on the rocks and slash his pinky open like I did. That hurt (and still hurts)! // Not long after dawn, 16 Mar 2017, prior to commencement of the day's competition - 2017 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks.

Bede & Steph natter @ Snapper

Steph: “You’ve only just had a 17cm metal rod removed from your pelvis - you know the one you smashed a little over a year ago - and you’re gonna jump in off the rocks? Man, you’re incredible!”

Bede: “Aww, shucks.”

That’s one possible conversation. I couldn’t quite hear them from where I was. Local surfing legends Stephanie Gilmore & Bede Durbidge @ Snapper Rocks, 09 Feb 2017.
